Two suppliers suggest different sealing arrangements for the same opening. To compare them, begin with the vehicles that will touch or enter the arrangement—not just the outside dimensions of the shelter frame.

Short answer

A foam dock seal uses compressible pads at the vehicle interface, while shelter arrangements use curtains or inflatable elements around the opening. Compare the vehicle fleet, contact geometry and operating conditions before choosing.

Does the bay serve one vehicle type?

Record both frequent and occasional vehicles. A consistent fleet can simplify contact geometry, while a mixed fleet requires careful review of the shelter envelope. Provide actual dimensions rather than assuming all trucks share one body size.

What contacts the vehicle?

Review foam contact positions, curtain overlap or inflatable chamber movement against the vehicle rear geometry. Check bumpers and guides at the same time because the final docking position affects the sealing interface.

How does the opening affect the arrangement?

Measure the door opening and surrounding building face. Confirm clearances for the door guides, shelter frame and any canopies or services. Equipment on the same wall must be coordinated on one interface drawing.

What happens when components wear?

Keep the equipment identification and original component records. Replacement requests should include photographs and dimensions. Matching a replacement curtain or pad requires more than identifying the product family.

Before you confirm the selection

Use JD-2010, JD-2011 and JD-2012 to identify families for discussion. Obtain confirmed dimensional units, contact geometry and configuration before selection. Do not compare unsupported sealing percentages as if they were measured under the same conditions.

Can I select a seal using only door width and height?

No. Include vehicle rear geometry, docking position and surrounding equipment. The door opening is only one part of the contact arrangement.
